Lady Cavs volleyball falls in NWFAC semis

Newton- It was going to be a top-notch battle for the 4 seed East Burke volleyball team to dethrone top-seeded Foard.

The Lady Cavaliers proved to give their best effort but Foard ultimately won the three-set contest in Tuesday's Northwestern Foothills 2A semifinals.

Kendall Buff (dig, kill), Riley Haas (serving ace), and Erica Clontz (kill) kept EB ahead early in the opening set until the host Lady Tigers were able to jump ahead.

A block by Graleigh Hildebran and a Haas kill looked to help the Lady Cavs stay within Foard's lead until Foard went on an eight-point run to distance themselves for the first set win.

Foard scored the first four points of set two as Haas, Hildebran, and Clontz made key plays to keep the score close.

Foard ultimately dominated set three while Faith McDowell recorded a kill and a block in the last-ditch effort at a late comeback.

The Lady Cavaliers are expected to be on the road in the first round of the 2A state playoffs Saturday.
