Statesville- A 40-yard field goal by Ryan Kaminske with 6.3 seconds left ended a late comeback rally by West Iredell as Draughn sealed a 38-28 win over the host Warriors.
Friday night's road win was their first victory over West Iredell in three meetings, extends a current winning streak to a school-record total of four games, and gives the Wildcats a 2-0 start in the Northwestern Foothills 2A Conference.
"I think it was a monumental win for our program and I'm so thrilled for our kids," said Draughn football coach Chris Powell. "These young men have worked extremely hard this offseason and are reaping the benefits of their labor."
Draughn (4-2) gained a 14-0 lead early in the first half with Braxton Cox connecting with Denver Treadway on touchdown completions of 7 and 22 yards.
A Cox two-point conversion pass to Nick Chrisco added to the lead after a Kaminske PAT kick attempt was blocked after the first touchdown.
The Wildcats then went to the ground with Trent Corn (season-high 235 rushing yards on 27 carries) and Nick Chrisco rushing for 74 and 9-yard touchdown runs.
West Iredell's Myles Jackson countered with touchdown runs of 5 and 4 yards to cut Draughn's lead to 28-14 at the halftime break.
A third-quarter Cox pass for 17 yards to Chrisco gave the Wildcats a three-score advantage while Warriors quarterback Eli Kitchens set up a comeback tossing two touchdown passes of 40 yards each to only trail 35-28.
The last effort drive for West Iredell ended at 2:34 remaining off a turnover on downs and the Wildcats ground game kept the remaining clock running to set up Kaminske's last-second field goal.
Cox finished with 215 yards passing on 11 of 20 completions and now averages 216.3 yards with 18 touchdowns in six games this season.
Corn and Patton transfer Donavan King each received Farm Bureau offensive and defensive players of the game after the game.
King registered three sacks for the Wildcats and caused a fumble on the kick return following Corn's touchdown run.
The Wildcats return home next Friday hosting Patton for the 11th annual Homecoming game and attempt at a fifth consecutive win.
"I feel our kids are now believing in each other and the system and fully believe the sky is the limit for them. We tell the kids every day to stay humble and stay hungry, we aren't satisfied with just these four wins in a row," said Powell.
