Cox commits with Presbyterian College

Valdese- Record-setting Draughn quarterback Braxton Cox has verbally committed to continue his education and football career with Presbyterian College.

"I want to thank everyone who has poured into me from my teachers to my parents to my coaches," said Cox on Twitter. "I want to send a special thank you to Coach (Chris) Powell for everything that he did for our team and school and also my family."

Cox set many passing records at DHS over the last two seasons including the county single-season record for touchdowns (34) this past fall and swept player of the year awards from the Northwestern Foothills 2A Conference, Morganton News-Herald, and Valdese Sports Network.

"Just to see Braxton grow over the last two years has been phenomenal to watch," said Powell. "He bought into the system and had those bumps and bruises to go with the transition. He put in the extra work and film study his senior year and it showed off, I couldn't be happier for him to have this opportunity to play at the next level."

The Blue Hose finished 2-10 overall (2-5 in the Big South Conference) last fall.

The Big South Conference includes nearby Gardner-Webb University but is transitioning to move to the Pioneer Football League in 2021, which also includes Davidson College in Charlotte.

Cox is planning to study engineering at Presbyterian College.
