Valdese- The Draughn volleyball team started the week on the rebound after a four-game week that included a five-set road loss to Avery County.
The Lady Wildcats started out with consecutive three-set wins over Freedom and Madison before approaching the challenge of facing the defending Western Highlands Conference champions Rosman.
Draughn was able to withstand early holes for the result of gaining a thrilling four-set win over the visiting Tigers to lead the current conference standings with a 4-1 mark.
"The girls are starting to focus and play together," said Draughn volleyball coach Jamie Ward.
"It's a lot of hard work and determination (to win in this conference), all the girls on the bench and on the court are supporting each other."
One of the major key elements of Thursday's win came from senior Madison Powell recording 15 kills, especially in moments to dig out of deficits to Rosman.
"We all played together and worked so hard as a team," said Powell, who also recorded eight kills in Tuesday's win over Madison.
"That was the best game we played all this season."
Ally Auton, Addison Poteet, and Helena Hatley were also key standouts for the Lady Wildcats at the service line as Auton's appearance in the third set completely erased an early lead for Rosman.
Speed Hatley, Bella Williams, Ella Heavner, Emma Lewis, Bailey Mozeley, and Maddie Crouch were also key contributors to the win.
The JV team split the two conference contests winning over Madison and falling to Rosman in straight sets.
Meredith Rollyson, Ella Anthony, Trinity McDaniel, Lyrical Edwards, and Rylee Schutt were key contributors to the JV team.
