Icard- The East Burke volleyball team picked up their first three-set win of the season sweeping visiting Lincolnton on the Lady Cavaliers senior night honoring four seniors.
Senior Gabby Wingate earned the first point for EB (2-10, 2-3 CVAC) in the opening set until Lincolnton went on a 4-1 run to grab the lead.
Key plays at the net by Katherine Greene and Trysten Hare led the comeback as the Lady Cavaliers regained an 8-7 lead after a serving ace by senior Catherine Hammack.
Senior Jordan Newton along with Aubree Grigg and Claire Cook led the charge to close out the first set win.
It was a dominating second set for the Lady Cavaliers building up a 15-8 lead leading to a 2-0 advantage over the visiting Lady Wolves.
Lincolnton gained momentum in the third set of play leading as much as 17-7 until East Burke staged a comeback led by Grigg and Wingate.
Two spikes at the net by Reese Abernathy continued to cut down Lincolnton's lead as Hare and Roky Taylor made key plays to gain the lead.
As Lincolnton battled an attempt to force a fourth set, a block by Grigg ended their efforts.
East Burke, tied for fifth with Lincolnton in the CVAC standings, visits West Lincoln Thursday.
