Valdese- The Heritage Middle School baseball team hosted their final game of spring 2021 season Wednesday and were able to hand West McDowell their first loss 2-1.
Tate Jensen, coming off a recent illness, pitched five strong innings for the Eagles (4-2) giving up just one run on two hits and four walks with 11 strikeouts tossed.
Jacob Mull pitched in relief for two shutout innings with just allowing two hits and tossing three strikeouts.
Heritage started out with a one-run second inning lead when Bryson Powell began a two-out rally with a hit and later scored on an RBI single by Gavin Johnson.
Mull opened the third inning of play with a triple and a run off a passed ball to finish 2 for 2 with a double and intentional walk.
West McDowell scored their lone run in the fourth inning and was threatening with runners at third base in the sixth and seventh innings but the Eagles' defensive efforts held the visiting Spartans off.
