The 2019 high school football season began this past Thursday with the first official day of practice for the Draughn Wildcats and the East Burke Cavaliers.
Select Wildcat and Cavalier returning senior starters were selected to share their thoughts on the first week of practice.
"This has been a summer long grind for me and many of my teammates but after week one of official practice I can safely say that the atmosphere breeds high intensity and if we continue to bring our very best day in and day out then I feel like we'll have a very prosperous season."
-Draughn WR/CB/KR Khe-Nai Banks
"I think our first week of practice went great. Got a lot put in this week. I also think the group of guys we have this year are more like a team working for the same goal more then just a group of individuals. We are capable of doing great things in and outside of the conference"
-Draughn WR/CB Denver Treadway
"I’m beyond excited for this season with my brothers and want everyone to know that any success (for) one individual on our team is a win for our whole team. As for how our team is looking we have plenty of good players at every position but it all depends on our level of effort and if we play unselfishly."
-Draughn QB Braxton Cox
"First off I wanna thank God for allowing us to play this amazing game of football. This first week of practice has been really good as a senior it’s sad but it’s time to make best of it in all the time we got. We are having lots (of) fun out there, everyone getting use to the offense and defense, it’s looking pretty solid. Should be a good year!"
-East Burke RB/CB Josh Moore
"Very thankful and blessed to see another year of Cavalier football. A lot of energy and intensity this week, hoping for a good season this year."
-East Burke RB/SS Brett Childers
