Claremont- The East Burke boys track & field team won Wednesday's Bob Starnes Classic hosted by Bunker Hill led by eight first-place finishes.
Spencer Goins and KJ Byrd each collected three event wins for the Cavaliers with Byrd coming in first in the 110 hurdles (15.03), pole vault (14-04), and long jump (20-05.50), and Goins winning the 100 (11.02) and 200 (23.04) meter dashes and being part of the winning 4x200 relay (1:36.09) with Travis Craig, Mason Robison, and Davin Price.
Other EB event winners included Price in the 400-meter dash (54.01) and Ian Cox in the high jump (6-0).
EB was also aided by runner-up finishes in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays, Hunter Mauldin (3rd) and Brady Bostain (4th) in the shot put event, and Avery Fraley in the 100-meter dash (2nd) and high jump (3rd).
Taylor Bostain was the lone event winner for the Lady Cavaliers in the discus throw event (94-03) with a third-place finish in the shot put event.
The 4x800 relay earned a runner-up finish with MeKenzie Harris (400 meters), Piper Strong (800 run), and Meah Walsh (1600 run) finishing third.
At Saturday's first annual Odell E. Williams Invitational, the Cavaliers were represented by eight top ten finishes including Taylor Bostain (girls shot put 2nd, discus 5th), Ian Cox (boys high jump 2nd), Travis Craig (boys 300 hurdles 6th), Jaccob Fair (boys 300 hurdles 7th), Davin Price (boys 400 meters 7th), Brady Bostain (boys shot put 8th), and Hunter Mauldin (boys shot put 10th).
Draughn @ Avery County
The Wildcats had four runner-up finishes at last Thursday's meet hosted by Avery County including Reed Farrar (boys 1600 run), Luke Blalock (boys 110 hurdles), Regen Bridges (girls 800 run), and the boys 4x800 relay.
Bridges also finished third in the girls 1600 run with Andrew Albright finishing third in the boys 300 hurdles and 400 meters.
