The Draughn boys swimming team had major success in their last two meets before the Christmas break tying Hickory for first place (154 pts) in a meet at the Hickory YMCA and defeating Owen 77-52 this past Saturday in Asheville.
Trey Jensen (50 freestyle 24.28/24.70) and Jake Hudson (500 freestyle 5:46.59/5:58.51) were double event winners for the Wildcats.
Versus Owen, Jensen added a win in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.06) and Hudson a win in the 100 butterfly (1:03.50).
Brady Carswell (200 freestyle 2:42.36) and William Abernathy (100 backstroke 1:19.38) were other individual event winners from Saturday's meet.
Hudson (200 IM 2nd, Hickory), Jensen (100 breast 2nd, Hickory), Abernathy (200 IM, Asheville 2nd/Hickory 3rd), Carswell (100 breast 3rd 2x), Karson Ingram (100 fly 3rd, Hickory), Marshall Brinkley (200 free 4th, Hickory), Griffin Stephens (100 free 2nd/50 free 4th, Asheville), Mason Kirkland (50/100 free 3rd, Asheville), and Elias Phipps (500 free 3rd, Asheville) added points to the Wildcats total scores.
In addition, Hudson, Jensen, Carswell, and Abernathy teamed up to win the 200 freestyle (1:47.73/1:49.68) and 200 medley (2:03.26/Asheville) relays.
The 200 freestyle relay win in Hickory was separated by 1.97 seconds from second place St Stephens.
The Lady Wildcats placed third at the Hickory YMCA and fell to Owen 68-32.
The 200 freestyle relay placed second in Hickory, finishing 4.3 seconds off the winning time by St Stephens, and were consisted of Rhyannon Reasoner, Ally Auton, Sarah Mull, and GiGi Smith.
Smith (50/100 free 3rd), Reasoner (500 free/100 back 3rd), Mull (200 IM/100 breast 3rd), and Abby Wood (200 free 4th) were other key Lady Wildcat swimmers in Hickory.
Reasoner led Saturday in Asheville winning the 500 freestyle (6:41.08) and 100 backstroke (1:13.47).
The Wildcats will be hosting their first meet on January 5th at the Jimmy C Draughn Aquatic Center.
