Icard- The East Burke football team was put to the test again in a final tune-up before Northwestern Foothills 2A Conference play hosting West Lincoln at Danny Williams Field.
Williams Field turned into a warzone that proved costly for the Cavaliers in a 69-21 victory for the Rebels.
West Lincoln (4-0) scored the game's first 13 points off two touchdown runs by Cannon Bridges (game-high 178 rushing yards).
East Burke (1-3) got to work with Seth Pruitt, making his first start at quarterback this season, completing passes to Josh Moore for 34 yards and Luke Coble for 31 yards to set up a Moore one-yard run.
After an eight-play drive by West Lincoln that ended with a turnover on downs after a Raelyn Lo tackle for loss, the Cavaliers executed a 10 play drive ending with a 24-yard touchdown run by Moore.
The following point-after kick by Turner Strong gave EB a 14-13 second-quarter lead.
West Lincoln answered right back in four plays with a Xander Pendergrass 16 yard touchdown run and the two-point conversion run to grab the lead back 21-14.
Bridges and Pendergrass would find the endzone again in the second and third quarters to extend the lead out of EB's reach.
A Pruitt to Coble 19 yard touchdown connection gave the Cavaliers seven points back as Pruitt finished the night with 195 passing yards on nine completions.
Both squads each racked up 100 yards on penalty yardage including personal fouls and unsportsmanlike rulings for both teams.
Moore was again held below his rushing average (141.7) finishing with 55 yards on 12 carries and sat out most of the second half.
The Cavaliers now prepare for the conference season opening with a road game at West Caldwell next Friday in a matchup against former EB head coach Mike Biggerstaff.
