Lady Cats battle in three-set loss to West Iredell

Valdese- The Draughn volleyball team gave it all they got Thursday night hosting West Iredell despite falling in three sets (18-25, 17-20, 20-25).

The quartet of Christon Carswell, Madison Powell, Georgia Goulding, and Bailey Bryant led at the net to build up an early advantage in the opening set before the visiting Lady Warriors stole away the first set win.  

The Lady Wildcats (3-4 NWFAC) continued to battle forcing three ties in the second set of play as Sara Walker recorded a serving ace.

Walker (2 aces) and Powell (2 kills, serve) continued to help Draughn battle back in the last set but fell short.

The Lady Wildcats host Bunker Hill next Thursday.

Heritage 3, West McDowell 1

The Lady Eagles returned home after Tuesday's road win at East Burke Middle to defeat visiting West McDowell in four sets (25-17, 18-25, 25-20, 25-20).

Bailey Mozeley and Lyrical Edwards led at the net for Heritage (4-2) with Heather Garcia and Macy Auton leading at the service line.

Ally Auton and Kyndall Bennett were other key contributers for the Lady Eagles.

"I'm proud of every one of these girls, they hustled their tails off," said Heritage coach Daphne Mozeley.
