Statesville- For the first time this season, and since last year's Northwestern Foothills 2A championship meet, the East Burke cross country teams earned a sweep Friday at West Iredell.
The Cavalier boys scored 42 points to Draughn's 47 and were led at the finish line by Luke Elliott (2nd, 19:09.89), Caleb Johnson-White (3rd, 20:02.64), and Davin Price (6th, 20:29.65).
Reed Farrar once again came in first place for the Wildcats in his fourth consecutive race completing a 5K time of 17:51.72.
Other key Wildcat finishers included Grady Wooden (7th), Jonathan Garcia (8th), and Ryan Williams (11th).
There was also a JV boys race compiled of Hagan Suchocki (1st, 24:22) and Ben Thao (3rd, 26:27) for East Burke and Jesus Martinez-Ortega (2nd, 25:33) and Jacob Betances (4th, 26:29) for Draughn.
The Lady Cavaliers, scoring 15 points to Hibriten's 46, were led by a first-place finish from Meah Walsh (22:16.01) followed by Piper Strong (3rd, 24:26.68), Kylie McFalls (6th, 27:17.99), Madison Fowler (7th, 27:37.58), Janie Ennis (9th, 27:55.26), and Mary Blankenship (10th, 28:20.64).
Leading finishers for the Lady Wildcats were Ambria Blalock (2nd, 24:21.08) and Regen Bridges (5th, 25:01.01).
The Northwestern Foothills 2A Conference Championship meet is set for next Saturday at Bunker Hill.
