The Valdese Tigers Youth Football teams hosted their home opener this past Saturday vs. the neighboring Drexel Wolverines.
Valdese won two of three matchups over Drexel in the Pee-Wee (5-7) and Midget (10-12) divisions while Drexel won the Mighty Mite (8-9) division game.
The Tigers are back at home again this Saturday hosting WA Young.
Pee-Wee: Valdese 20, Drexel 8
The trio of Brayden Suttles, Cathan Preston, and Laken Mitchell each reached the endzone for the Tigers (3-2) to open the day with a win at Joe Temple Field.
Spencer Buff and Anthony Shawver were key Valdese defenders.
Drexel (3-2) scored their lone touchdown in the second quarter off a long run by Kaige Logan.
Mighty Mites: Drexel 20, Valdese 8
Corinthian Chapman led the Wolverines with three touchdown runs to continue a five-game undefeated streak this season.
Remi Treadway scored a touchdown run for Valdese (4-2) in the second quarter as Skylar Garland was also a key runner.
Garland, Chance Evans, Braylon Ward, and Chace Mayfield led the Tigers' defense.
Midgets: Valdese 30, Drexel 0
Walker Bowman provided the spark for the Tigers' win scoring on the opening kickoff and adding a touchdown run in the opening quarter of play.
Nolan Russ added two touchdown runs for Valdese (3-2) as Preston Radabaugh was a key defender.
