Cavs T&F finish 2nd in home meet, Byrd sets new record

Icard- Bandys topped the East Burke boys track & field team 105-96 in the Cavaliers' first home meet of the 2022 season but still had incredible performances.

Sophomore KJ Byrd led the way with four event wins in the 110 hurdles, high jump, long jump, and pole vault.

His pole vault mark of 15 feet, four inches set a brand new 2A state record as the next step for Byrd is the all-time NC record of 16 feet, 5.25 inches held by Lake Norman's Spencer Evans.

Spencer Goins was another Cavalier event winner in the 100 and 200-meter dashes with times of 11.50 and 24.12 seconds.

Davin Price, Avery "Slim Shady" Fraley, Kolby Byrd, and Ian Cox were other key EB performers.

The Lady Cavaliers finished in fourth place with 34 total points with their only win coming in the 4x800 relay registering a time of 12:02.25 as Meah Walsh, Piper Strong, Cadence Willis, and Phil McDaniel were on the team.

Walsh added runner-up finishes in the 800 and 1600 meter runs and Strong finished fourth in the 800-meter run.

Taylor Bostain was another key Lady Cavalier performer placing second in the discus throw and third in the shot put.
