Icard- It was a struggling season of sorts for the East Burke volleyball team.
Thursday night seemed to reverse some fortunes for the Lady Cavaliers hosting Bunker Hill in Catawba Valley Athletic Conference 2A play.
After falling in the first two sets to the visiting Lady Bears, East Burke rallied to claim three consecutive sets to gain that elusive first win of the season.
"They showed a lot of heart, I'm so proud they pushed and showed a lot of battle," said Lady Cavaliers coach Tracy Greene.
EB started off set three with a 7-1 advantage off five consecutive points with Gabby Wingate at the service line.
Aubree Grigg protected the lead recording three of her 12 kills with Jordan Newton adding a block.
The Lady Cavaliers trailed in set four 18-14 when Caroline Pruitt recorded a serving ace and Katherine Greene added a kill for an 18-all tie.
Two separate kills by Pruitt and Grigg pushed EB ahead to force the final do-or-die set.
The lead changed hands five times in the last set of play until kills by Wingate and Grigg nailed the win down.
"It felt great to win, we really communicated and worked together as a team. We didn't let any balls drop and make every point count," said Grigg.
The JV Lady Cavaliers swept Bunker Hill 25-7, 25-5 led by 11 aces and five kills from Addy Fortenberry.
