Lady Cavs Revenge, sweeps Lady Wildcats in NWFAC volleyball tournament opener

Icard- It's always a wild showdown when Draughn and East Burke meet on the volleyball court.

Five days after a four-set home win by the Lady Wildcats, they met again at East Burke in the opening round of the Northwestern Foothills 2A Conference tournament.

The sets stayed close but when the dust settled, the 4 seed Lady Cavaliers were victorious in a three-set win over the 5 seed Lady Wildcats (25-20, 25-13, 25-15).

"Last week's loss hurt us a lot and there was a lot of tension in this game, I'm just glad this one is on our side," said EB senior Erica Clontz.

Chloe Gary started off for Draughn (15-9) recording a serving ace and the Lady Wildcats built up a 7-4 lead behind kills from Georgia Goulding and Kirsten Powell.

The Lady Cavaliers (15-6) made a comeback and grabbed the lead late topped off with a serving ace by Erin Newton.

Clontz and Riley Haas dominated at the net with a couple kills to start off the second set along with Graleigh Hildebran, Kendall Buff, and Danielle Foxx contributing as the Lady Cavs led all the way to hold a 2-0 advantage.

Powell and Gary looked to keep the Lady Cavs from earning the three-set sweep but Haas, Clontz, and Hildebran were key at the net to seal the first-round win.

"I just really like this win and hope it gives us better seeding (for the state playoffs)," said Haas.

The Lady Cavs now turnaround to face top-seeded Foard today in the semifinal round after a close three-set battle with the Lady Tigers last week.

"It feels intimidating (to play Foard again) but after how we played today, we should hang in there," said Clontz.
